2022-2023 Winter Break Writing Challenge Winner Showcase

In Fall 2022, Students, Staff, Faculty, and Alumni of Boise State University were invited to submit work to the Winter Break Writing Challenge. These entries could be fictional, biographical, prose, poetry, six words long, forty pages long, but, most importantly, they could be in any language (English included).

Boise State University's Latin Program hosted the Challenge for a couple of reasons: writing challenges are fun and we wanted to celebrate and promote creative content written in the languages represented by our community. 

The Winter Break Writing Challenge committee is pleased to announce the selected "winners" of the Challenge: Jaelahna S. Allen, Mandee Snowden-Edmonds, Joseph Hess, Emma Halverson, and an anonymous poet. 

This Blog will feature each author's work, showcasing each for a week, beginning March 27, 2023.

2023-2024 WBWC Featured Author: Aaron Stone, "The Great Frontier"

 "The Great Frontier", by Aaron Stone. Aaron is an avid science fiction reader and loves to watch classic science fiction television shows and movies.  He is inspired by the written works of Larry Niven, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Karen Traviss, Mark E Cooper, Jay Lake, and James S. A. Corey among others.  Some of his top films are the Alien films (Sigourney Weaver), The Thing, Contact, Ironman, Blade Runner, Star Trek, old-school Star Wars, and Demolition Man.  He is a scientist and researcher at heart and likes spending time in nature and the outdoors. Summary: Hector is a young adult trying to survive and secure a future for himself.  He believes that future may be on Mars. 2023-2024 WBWC Featured Author: Rad Nguyen, "Villainous Heroic Duo"

 "Villainous Heroic Duo," by Rad Nguyen Rad is a nonbinary, disabled, Vietnamese American currently in their senior year of college, finishing up a GIMM (Gaming Interactive Media Mobile) major. They hope to continue working on storytelling and 2D animation skills, and continue to tell stories like these. They love games and cartoons and are inspired to create stories like these. Summary: This story is about two characters Hayden, a villain just getting their start in villainy, and Skylar, a newbie superhero. Skylar gets assigned to defeat and capture Hayden by the council of superheroes, and Hayden is alerted by a fellow villain about the news they picked up. Hayden prepares to battle Skylar in their lair, but things go awry when their sidekick/assistant Charles messes with Hayden’s technology, causing the two to confess their feelings for one another, and Charles makes his debut as a new superhero.
